Choghadiya Today in Brampton
Today’s choghadiya for Brampton, Ontario, worked out from Brampton’s own sunrise and sunset in Eastern Time (America/Toronto). Brampton, where 18.1 percent of people in private households reported a Hindu religion in the 2021 Census, centres on the Hindu Sabha Temple on 25 acres at The Gore Road, opened in 1994 with the pran pratishtha of Maa Jagdamba; the City’s own Diwali Mela has lit Sesquicentennial Park each autumn since 2023, and Chinmaya Shivalaya, Bhavani Shankar Mandir and Brampton Triveni Mandir fill out the week. Brampton’s clock runs 9 hours 30 minutes to 10 hours 30 minutes behind India’s, so some festivals fall a day earlier here than in India.

Why a date can differ: a tithi (lunar day) begins at the same instant everywhere on earth, but a festival is kept on the local day when its tithi holds at the right moment, such as sunrise or moonrise. Brampton keeps a different clock from India, so that moment can land on a different calendar day here. For festivals not listed, see the festival calendar.
