Choghadiya Today in Vancouver

Today’s choghadiya for Vancouver, British Columbia, worked out from Vancouver’s own sunrise and sunset in Pacific Time (UTC-7 all year). Hindu life in the Lower Mainland centres on Surrey, home to about 46 percent of the Vancouver metropolitan area’s 66,530 Hindus, while temples cluster along Burnaby’s Marine Drive and Richmond’s No. 5 Road. Vancouver’s clock runs 12 hours 30 minutes behind India’s, so some festivals fall a day earlier here than in India.

Why a date can differ: a tithi (lunar day) begins at the same instant everywhere on earth, but a festival is kept on the local day when its tithi holds at the right moment, such as sunrise or moonrise. Vancouver keeps a different clock from India, so that moment can land on a different calendar day here. For festivals not listed, see the festival calendar.

Vancouver choghadiya and festivals: common questions

What time is the Karva Chauth moonrise in Vancouver?
Wednesday, October 28, 2026, a day before India (Thu, Oct 29): moonrise 7:17 PM, puja 5:59 PM to 7:22 PM. It can fall on a different calendar day from India because the fast is kept on the evening when the Chaturthi tithi is in force at moonrise, and Vancouver’s clock runs 12 hours 30 minutes behind India’s that week.
When is Lakshmi puja on Diwali in Vancouver?
The Lakshmi puja muhurat in Vancouver is Sunday, November 8, 2026: 5:54 PM to 7:34 PM.
When is Holi 2027 in Vancouver?
Monday, March 22, 2027 in Vancouver, a day before India (Tue, Mar 23). Holika Dahan: Sunday, March 21, 2027.
When is Janmashtami 2027 in Vancouver?
Tuesday, August 24, 2027 in Vancouver, a day before India (Wed, Aug 25).
When is Dussehra 2026 in Vancouver?
Tuesday, October 20, 2026 in Vancouver, same day as India.
When does Navratri 2027 begin in Vancouver?
Thursday, September 30, 2027 in Vancouver, same day as India.
When is Makar Sankranti 2027 in Vancouver?
Thursday, January 14, 2027 in Vancouver, a day before India (Fri, Jan 15).
Why will choghadiya and muhurat times in Vancouver read an hour later on the clock this winter?
British Columbia has stopped changing its clocks: March 8, 2026 was the province’s final time change, and on November 1, 2026 clocks will not be turned back, so B.C. stays on Pacific time (PCT) at UTC-7 all year. Sunrise, sunset and the choghadiya periods built on them therefore show one hour later on the clock than they would have under the old winter standard time.
Where can I join a free public Diwali celebration in Metro Vancouver in 2026?
Diwali Fest, produced by the Diwali Celebration Society, lists free events at Marine Gateway on October 24, Tsawwassen Mills on November 1, the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam on November 5, the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver on November 7 and the Anvil Centre in New Westminster on November 9.
