Understanding Aaj Ka Panchang

A quick guide to reading today’s Panchang, its timings and the auspicious and inauspicious windows for your city.

What is Aaj Ka Panchang?

Aaj Ka Panchang (आज का पंचांग) is the Hindu almanac for today, calculated for your exact location. It reads the day through five limbs, tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana, along with the sunrise and sunset that drive every muhurat.

Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana

Aaj ki tithi (आज की तिथि), the paksha, today’s nakshatra, yoga and karana each change at their own moment, and together they decide the festivals and vrat that fall today, from Ekadashi and Pradosh to Purnima and Amavasya.

Choghadiya, Din and Raat

Aaj Ka Choghadiya (आज का चौघड़िया) splits the day and night into eight windows each. Amrit, Shubh and Labh are the auspicious ones, best for puja, weddings and important work, while Char suits travel.

Rahu Kaal and Inauspicious Times

Rahu Kaal (राहु काल) is the roughly ninety-minute window most people avoid for new work. Gulika Kaal, Yamaganda and Kaal Vela are also inauspicious, shown above beside the auspicious Abhijit muhurat near noon.

Aaj Ka Shubh Muhurat

Aaj ka shubh muhurat (आज का शुभ मुहूर्त) is the best time to begin something important. The Abhijit Muhurat around midday is universally auspicious, along with the Amrit, Shubh and Labh Choghadiya. Always avoid Rahu Kaal for new beginnings.

Panchang for Your City

Because every timing depends on your local sunrise, this Panchang is accurate for any city. Search your town or tap Use my location for Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and thousands of cities across India and the world.

How this Panchang is calculated

Every timing on this page is computed live in your browser using standard astronomical formulas: NOAA sunrise and sunset, Meeus positions of the Sun and Moon, and the Lahiri ayanamsa. The Hindu day runs from one sunrise to the next, and the day and night are each divided into eight Choghadiya between your own local sunrise and sunset, so everything follows your sky rather than a fixed city’s.

Nothing is drawn from any third-party Panchang service, and your location never leaves your device except to name your city. Transition minutes for tithi and nakshatra can differ by a minute or two from a full ephemeris. For an important muhurta such as a wedding, griha pravesh or a new venture, please confirm with your family Panchang or priest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the Hindu day change at sunrise, not midnight?

In the Hindu almanac the day (vara) runs from one sunrise to the next, so the Choghadiya and many muhurats are measured from your local sunrise rather than from midnight.

What is the difference between Choghadiya and Rahu Kaal?

Choghadiya divides the whole day and night into eight windows each, some auspicious and some not. Rahu Kaal is a single inauspicious window of about ninety minutes. Both are shown above for your city.

Can I see the Panchang for another date?

Yes. Use the arrows beside the date to view the Panchang for tomorrow, yesterday or any date you choose.

How accurate are the timings for my city?

Every timing is computed from your exact location’s sunrise and sunset, so the tithi, Choghadiya, Rahu Kaal and muhurat match your city instead of a fixed default.

Does it work for cities outside India?

Yes. Search any town or tap Use my location, and the Panchang is calculated for that place anywhere in the world.

Is my location stored anywhere?

No. Your location is used only inside your browser to calculate the timings. It is not sent to or stored on any server.
