Khajrana Ganesh Temple
The Indore district site credits the temple to Rani Ahilyabai Holkar: the idol, hidden in a well to protect it from Aurangzeb, was taken out in 1735 and the temple set up that year; crowds come mainly on Wednesdays and Sundays, the sanctum’s gate and outer wall are silver, the deity’s eyes are diamonds given by an Indore businessman, the Bhatt family manages the temple, and its main festival is Vinayak Chaturthi in August and September.
Maa Annapurna Temple
Incredible India traces the temple to the 9th century, renovated in 1959 by Mahamandaleshwar Swami Prabanandagiri, with an entrance of 1975 carried on four elephant sculptures, a two-acre complex modelled on Madurai’s Meenakshi Temple in a blend of Indo-Aryan and Dravidian styles, white-marble images of Annapurna, Kali and Saraswati, Krishna and Radha idols and 64 Yoginis on the pillars; MP Tourism adds shrines to Shiva, Hanuman and Kalbhairava; open 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 to 10:00 PM.
Bada Ganpati Temple
Incredible India dates the temple to 1875 and gives the idol’s height as 25 feet, made with soil collected from the seven sacred cities, holy water and powdered panch ratna on a frame of gold, silver, copper, iron and brass, after a resident of Ujjain dreamt of Ganpati and made the statue to seek his favour.
Ranjeet Hanuman Temple
Free Press Journal’s feature says the temple was built 130 years ago around a swayambhu idol whose origins are unknown, believed to grant victory over enemies after the legend of a defeated king led to it by a sage’s breadcrumbs; its Ranjeet Ashtami prabhat pheri draws more than one lakh devotees each year, preceded by a Deepotsav of 21,000 lamps and 51,000 sacred threads on the idol.
Pitra Parvat Hanuman Temple
MP Tourism describes a 71-foot, 108-tonne idol of Hanuman seated in meditation on the mountaintop, surrounded by greenery.
Harsiddhi Temple
MP Tourism dates the temple to the 18th century and notes the crowds that come to it during Navratri.
Sri Sri Radha Govind Mandir (ISKCON Indore)
The temple’s site lists Mangala Aarti at 4:30 AM, Sringara Aarti at 7:15, darshan 8:30 to 11:55 AM, Raj-bhog at 12:30 PM, closed 1:10 to 4:30 PM, Gaura Sandhya Aarti 7:00 to 8:00 PM and a last darshan at 8:30 PM, with Jagannath Snan Yatra on 29 June 2026 and Rath Yatra on 19 July 2026; the Radha Govind temple itself is still under construction.
Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain
MP Tourism counts the five-storied temple among the twelve Jyotirlingas, with the Bhasma aarti a daily ritual that needs prior registration on the authorised website, and the Mahakal Lok corridor running more than 900 metres.
Festival traditions in Indore
- Census 2011 counted 3,276,697 people in Indore district, 83.26 percent of them Hindu, with Muslims (12.67 percent) and Jains (2.19 percent) the next largest groups. (Census 2011 district tables)
- The Anant Chaturdashi tableau procession of 2026 set out at 6 PM on Friday 25 September with Hukumchand Mill’s 103rd presentation, Kalyan and Swadeshi Mills’ 97th, Rajkumar Mill’s 92nd and the Indore Development Authority’s 29th among more than ten committees, under security split into six divisions, 12 zones and 22 sectors with over 2,000 personnel and a women’s Shakti Dal along the route. - The Indore district describes the procession as the work of the former textile mills, Rajkumar, Swadeshi and Hukumchand among them, whose jhankis take more than ten days to build and travel from the Malwa Mill area over the Rajkumar Mill flyover, Jail Road and MG Road past the Krishnapura chhatris, the Fruit Market, Narsinh Bazaar and Khajoori Bazaar to Rajwada, organised by the Municipal Corporation and the Indore Development Authority. - After the 2025 festival the Indore Municipal Corporation collected thousands of Ganesh idols from 105 designated points with 190 vehicles and immersed them at Jawahar Tekri in collected rainwater, using crushers, conveyor belts, cranes and ten hydraulic machines. - The Rangpanchami Ger of Sunday 8 March 2026 left Tori Corner Square for Rajwada in the Tori Corner procession’s 78th year with lakhs taking part, and the whole route was cleaned within an hour by more than 400 sanitation workers with ten sweeping machines; in 2025 over one lakh women joined and more than 4,000 police were deployed.
