EME Temple (Dakshinamurty Temple)
Built by the Army’s Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps inside the Baroda cantonment, with a geodesic aluminium dome whose parts stand for five faiths (the kalash for Hinduism, the dome for Islam, the tower for Christianity, the golden finial for Buddhism and the entrance for Jainism) and a garden of 106 statues from the 6th to the 16th centuries; open 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM.
Sursagar lake and the Shiva statue
Gujarat Tourism says the lake, also called Chand Talao, was built in the 18th century at the centre of the city and carries a 120-foot statue of Shiva installed by the Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan, the city’s civic body.
Chandod Triveni Sangam
The Vadodara district site places the village at the meeting of the Narmada, Orsang and Saraswati rivers, lists its Kapileshwar Mahadev, Seshasinarayan, Pingleshwar Mahadev and Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev temples, and calls it a major pilgrimage site for the last rites of the dead.
Baliyadev Mandir, Por
The district site records the temple at Por village near the city as about 500 years old and dedicated to Baliyadev.
Kalika Mata Temple, Pavagadh Hill
Gujarat Tourism places Champaner 45 km from Vadodara and describes the summit temple to Mother Kali, 800 m above sea level, as the oldest in the area, from the 10th to 11th centuries, reached by a 5 km jungle footpath or the cable car from the midway point, and open from very early to late for pilgrims.
Kirti Mandir
Gujarat Tourism describes the royal mausoleum of the Gaekwad dynasty, built for Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III’s silver jubilee in 1936 and dedicated to Lord Mahadev, with murals by Nandalal Bose on Gangavataran, the life of Meera and the Mahabharata; open 8 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 5:30 PM.
Ranchhodrai Temple, Dakor
Gujarat Tourism dates the temple to 1772, built after a dream of Gopal Jagannath Ambekar, a shroff at the Peshwa’s court, with a black touchstone idol about a metre tall of Ranchhodji, the Krishna who left the battlefield; open 6 AM to 12 noon and 4 PM to 7 PM, with buses from Vadodara.
