Katyayani, born of the combined radiance of the gods in the ashram of the sage Katyayana, is the fierce warrior form of the Goddess. Golden and resplendent, riding a lion and bearing a sword, she is Durga the slayer of the buffalo-demon Mahishasura.
When no god could defeat the demon, it was Katyayani who rose and ended his terror, restoring dharma to the worlds.
The Meaning
Katyayani is the victorious power of the Divine Mother against all evil, fearless and unstoppable in the cause of dharma. Worshipped on the sixth night of Navratri, devotees pray to her for courage and the removal of obstacles.
