Form of the Goddess · The Divine Mother
Parvatiपार्वती
The gentle mother goddess, consort of Shiva and the wellspring of all Shakti.
ॐ पार्वत्यै नमःThe Story of Parvati
Parvati is the Divine Mother in her most gentle and loving form, born as the daughter of Himavan, lord of the Himalayas, to become the consort of Lord Shiva and to draw the great ascetic back into the dance of life.
Through years of devoted penance she won Shiva’s love, and as his eternal companion she completes him: where Shiva is pure stillness, Parvati is the living power, the Shakti, through which the whole universe unfolds.
As the mother of Ganesha and Kartikeya she is the tender heart of the divine family, and from her flow all the many goddesses, gentle and fierce alike.
The Meaning
Parvati embodies devotion, patience and the nurturing power of the Mother. She teaches that steadfast love can move even the unmovable, and that the gentle and the powerful are one. As the source of Shakti, she is the very energy behind creation, honoured across the land in countless forms.
