Form of the Goddess · Goddess of Wisdom
Saraswatiसरस्वती
Goddess of knowledge, learning, music and the arts, robed in white upon the lotus.
ॐ ऐं सरस्वत्यै नमःThe Story of Saraswati
Saraswati is the goddess of wisdom, learning, speech, music and all the arts, the flowing power of knowledge from which the very Vedas arose. Robed in pure white, she sits upon a white lotus beside flowing waters, a graceful swan at her side.
In her hands she holds the veena, whose music is the harmony of knowledge, a string of beads for meditation, and the sacred books of wisdom.
She is the consort of Brahma the creator, for no world can be fashioned without knowledge. Students, artists and seekers honour her, above all at Vasant Panchami, praying for clarity, eloquence and insight.
The Meaning
Saraswati embodies the truth that knowledge is the highest wealth and the light that dispels ignorance. Her white robes are the purity of true learning, untouched by ego, and her music is the beauty that wisdom brings. She is the patron of every student, teacher and artist who seeks the truth.
