The Story of Buddha

Born a prince named Siddhartha, sheltered from all sorrow within his palace, he ventured out one day and saw old age, sickness and death, and a wandering ascetic at peace. Moved to his depths, he left his throne and family in search of the end of suffering.

After years of seeking and severe penance, he sat in meditation beneath the Bodhi tree and resolved not to rise until he had understood. There, at dawn, he awakened, and became the Buddha, the Enlightened One.

For the rest of his life he walked and taught the middle way: compassion for all beings, and the path that leads beyond sorrow, gathering disciples whose practice spread across the world.

The Meaning

In the Vaishnava tradition Buddha is counted among the Dashavatar, the Lord descending to turn hearts toward compassion, gentleness and the inner life. His story teaches that awakening is possible for anyone who looks honestly at suffering and walks the path with patience. He stands as the avatar of ahimsa, non-violence, and serene wisdom.
