Choghadiya Today in Leicester

Today’s choghadiya for Leicester, England, worked out from Leicester’s own sunrise and sunset in UK time (Europe/London). Hindu life in Leicester, where 17.9% of residents identified as Hindu in the 2021 Census, centres on Belgrave and the Golden Mile on Belgrave Road, where the city’s public Diwali lights have gone up since 1983. Leicester’s clock runs 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours 30 minutes behind India’s, so some festivals fall a day earlier here than in India.

Why a date can differ: a tithi (lunar day) begins at the same instant everywhere on earth, but a festival is kept on the local day when its tithi holds at the right moment, such as sunrise or moonrise. Leicester keeps a different clock from India, so that moment can land on a different calendar day here. For festivals not listed, see the festival calendar.
