Mahavidya · Eighth of the Ten
Bagalamukhiबगलामुखी
The goddess who stills all that opposes, the power of stambhana.
ॐ ह्लीं बगलामुख्यै नमःThe Story of Bagalamukhi
Bagalamukhi, the eighth Mahavidya, is the golden goddess who wields the power of stambhana, the stilling and restraining of all that opposes dharma. Robed in yellow, she is invoked to silence falsehood and hold hostile forces in check.
Her power is the sudden stillness that halts the restless and the wicked, turning the strength of the adversary against itself and protecting the devotee from harm.
The Meaning
Bagalamukhi is the power that stills the storms within and without, quieting the restless mind and disarming every hostile force. She teaches that there is a strength in stillness greater than action, and she is invoked for protection, victory and the silencing of inner and outer enemies.
