Seventh Avatar of Vishnu · Dashavatar
Ramaराम
Maryada Purushottam, the ideal king whose life is the Ramayana.
ॐ रामाय नमःThe Story of Rama
Born as the prince of Ayodhya to King Dasharatha, Rama was beloved by all for his courage, gentleness and unwavering truth. On the eve of his coronation he was sent into fourteen years of forest exile to honour his father’s word, and he accepted it without a trace of bitterness, accompanied by his devoted wife Sita and his loyal brother Lakshmana.
In the forest the demon king Ravana of Lanka carried Sita away. With the help of the noble Hanuman and the army of the vanaras, Rama crossed the ocean, and in a great war defeated Ravana and freed Sita.
Returning to Ayodhya, Rama was crowned at last, and his reign, Ram Rajya, became the very picture of a just and righteous kingdom, remembered ever after as the golden age of dharma.
