Navadurga · Seventh Form
Kalaratriकालरात्रि
The fearless dark goddess who destroys all fear, worshipped on the seventh day.
ॐ देवी कालरात्र्यै नमःThe Story of Kalaratri
Kalaratri is the most fierce and fearless of the Navadurga, dark as the night that swallows all fear, with flowing hair and a fearless gaze, a luminous protector of her devotees.
Though her form is awesome, she is also called Shubhankari, the doer of good, for her fierceness falls only upon evil and ignorance, never upon the devotee who takes refuge in her.
The Meaning
Kalaratri teaches that the dark and terrible face of the Goddess is, for the devotee, the very destroyer of fear, ignorance and every negative force. Worshipped on the seventh night, she grants fearlessness and protection.
